CommPre believes that communities - much like individuals - develop alcohol-related problems. Our Mission is to reduce and prevent problems where alcohol is used, sold, and/or promoted (neighborhoods, sporting events, liquor outlets, schools).
Community Prevention of Alcohol Related Problems (CommPre) is NOT a revival of Prohibition. We believe that communities can reduce or prevent alcohol-related problems by utilizing these prevention strategies:
- Grassroots Community Organizing
- Policy Setting and Monitoring
- Creation of Safe and Healthy Environments
- Education and Training (i.e. Responsible Beverage Service)
CommPre uses these strategies to facilitate prevention activities in environments throughout the community. CommPre's ultmate goal is to lower the public health and safety costs associated with alcohol-related problems and to increase the health outcomes of Alameda County residents.
CommPre's goal is to protect communities from harmful influences by creating an environment that helps individuals make healthy choices and requires responsible action from government and business. They do this by supporting individuals and groups taking action to improve their communities, changing unjust conditions, holdiing accountable those who profit from harmful conditions, and disseminating information and research as a catalyst for solution-oriented action. CommPre is active in developing environmental prevention strategies in response to current trends and training others to use these strategies.
