About Itzia
Itzia Cruz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a lifelong commitment to serving marginalized communities. She has worked with a wide range of underserved populations, including children and young people involved in the Child Protective Services and foster care systems, chronically ill patients, special education students, and individuals with substance use disorders. Her expertise spans comprehensive case management, individual and group therapy, clinical supervision, and quality oversight. At Horizon Treatment Services she specializes in the treatment of individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, and she developed the internship program that builds Horizon's pipeline of future SUD counselors and clinicians.
Areas of Focus
Co-occurring disorders
Individual therapy, psychoeducational and process groups for clients navigating both substance use and mental health conditions.
Clinical supervision and training
Supervision of associate clinicians, registered and certified SUD counselors, with training in evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions.
Curriculum and workforce development
Created Narrative Therapy and Relapse Prevention curricula, and built the internship program for MSW, BASW, MFT, and PCC students.
